A stolen semi-truck rammed into Vermilion Credit Union in Mannville early Tuesday, in what RCMP believe was an attempted break-in.

RCMP were called to the credit union around 3:57 a.m. Sept. 15, said Cpl. Mathew Howell, a K Division RCMP spokesperson.

Mannville fire crews were already on scene when officers arrived, said Howell.

Officers located the semi, a white unit reported stolen from a local business, said Howell.

Investigators believe the driver intentionally rammed the semi-truck into the building in an attempt to force entry and steal from inside, said Howell.

The suspect fled before police arrived and remains at large.

Photos posted to social media show the collision tore a gaping hole through the exterior wall of the credit union. The ATM unit appears smashed, with insulation, drywall and twisted metal scattered around the building. BorderPulse has not independently confirmed the extent of the damage.

No arrests have been made and no charges have been laid. The investigation is ongoing.

RCMP are asking anyone with camera footage from the area to come forward.

Anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips can be submitted anonymously.

RCMP will release more information as the investigation continues, said Howell.

The location remains closed.
