Holy Rosary Fire 4

Update – Holy Rosary High School is open Tuesday following an early morning cafeteria fire. The school’s sprinkler system helped contain the blaze. Cafeteria service is suspended for the day. Full details in our follow-up report.

A small structure fire at Holy Rosary High School in Lloydminster is under investigation after crews responded early Tuesday (June 2) morning.

Lloydminster Fire and Rescue Chief Bill Heesing was on scene and confirmed the fire as a structure fire. It was reported shortly after 5 a.m.

The fire was discovered by a board representative who had been placed in the school overnight after a false alarm earlier in the evening. That person spotted the fire in the cafeteria.

Glenda Kary, director of education with the Lloydminster Catholic School Division, said the fire appeared to be small and contained quickly, but they hadn’t had a chance to go inside yet. As of 6:10 a.m. school will go forward as normal, however, there will be no cafeteria services.

Heesing stated the cause remains under investigation.
