Lloydminster’s Governance and Priorities Committee meets today (Aug. 10) with one of its fuller agendas in months.
Const. Brittany Simms and Const. Dan Haider open the meeting with an update on the RCMP‘s School Resource Officer program, which covers both the Catholic and Public school divisions.
From there, five administration reports are on the table. Corporate Services will present the city’s second-quarter financial report, which shows long-term debt climbing to $90.4 million, up from $60.5 million a year ago. A procurement report and a governance document review follow, along with an update on the city’s social program grants, which distributed $504,704 to local agencies this year.
Community Development Services will also present a one-year review of the city’s restructured Municipal Enforcement division, created after the province scaled back automated traffic enforcement.
The biggest item is a full rewrite of the city’s Traffic Bylaw. The draft would lower Lloydminster’s default speed limit from 50 to 40 km/h, introduce steeper fines for vehicle noise complaints and update truck routes.
The committee is also set to move into a closed session to discuss confidential policy matters before adjourning.
