Lloydminster Catholic School Division says it is ready to welcome students back for the 2026-27 school year, with new school websites, new administrators and a new multi-sport field all coming together before classes resume Sept. 1.
LCSD Director of Education Glenda Kary said the division spent the summer on planning, training and facility upgrades.
“There is something pretty special about the first few days of a new school year,” said Kary.
“Our buildings have been busy all summer, but they aren’t really schools until our students and staff are back in them.”
New websites for the division
LCSD has launched new websites for the division and each of its schools, keeping the same web addresses families already use.
The division said the redesigned sites are more mobile-friendly, with faster navigation, clearer calendars and easier access to school announcements and social media.
The update is part of the division’s 2025 accessibility plan.
Leadership changes at two schools
Two LCSD schools have new administrators this year.
Kristen Raines has joined Holy Rosary High School as vice-principal, working alongside Aaron Oakes.
At St. Mary’s Elementary School, Mitch Cherry has taken over as principal. Susan Grams, the former St. Mary’s principal, has moved to a vice-principal role at École St. Thomas.
Cherry plans to introduce a new school logo and mascot, the St. Mary’s Royals, which the division says is meant to build school spirit through sport and physical activity.
New teachers with the division took part in induction training that covered division expectations, available supports and a session on Catholic education, the division said. Returning principals also completed additional training.
Theme for the year is Rooted in Christ
The division’s theme for 2026-27 is Rooted in Christ.
Staff gathered Aug. 27 for a Commissioning Mass, followed by an afternoon session with David Wells, a Catholic speaker and author visiting from England.
“Our responsibility goes well beyond academics,” said Kary. “We want our students to discover what they are capable of academically, athletically and spiritually.”
New turf field opens
LCSD’s new multi-sport artificial turf field at Canadian Natural Resources Field opened Friday with an exhibition football game.
Football is currently LCSD’s largest sport by participation, according to the division.
The division said the field is designed to support multiple school sports programs and create opportunities for community use. LCSD said it hopes the facility could eventually help Lloydminster host larger provincial or national sporting events.
“Seeing our students compete under the lights will be exciting, but what excites us even more is everything this facility can become,” said Kary.
Students return to LCSD classrooms to face the new school year tomorrow.
