A Lloydminster man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for his role in an aggravated assault that ended with a dramatic tactical arrest in June.
Sheldon S., 51, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 months at the Court of King’s Bench in Edmonton on Oct. 15. He also received a lifetime firearms prohibition.
RCMP’s Emergency Response Team arrested S. on June 27 after surrounding a home in the 1600 block of 52B Avenue Close, near the Servus Sports Centre. Officers demanded he exit the home, then deployed tactical explosive devices to take him into custody.
The charge stemmed from an assault in Vegreville. RCMP said S. and the victim were known to each other.
BorderPulse first reported the scene the evening of June 27. Staff Sgt. Bruce MacLean confirmed on scene that one person had been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation. RCMP “K” Division public information officer Cpl. Mat Howell confirmed the aggravated assault charge the following day.
An initial has been used for the accused in this story at the family’s request, due to impact on minor children.
