The warm, dry and windy conditions are starting to bring into effect fire ban in the areas surrounding Lloydminster.
Here is the latest across the region as of 5 p.m. –
R.M. of Wilton officially implemented a partial ban at 11 a.m.
“To mitigate the increased fire risk caused by Spring dry conditions –Â A Partial Ban is in effect beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026,” stated RM officials.
While the ban remains in effect:
· Any active burns should be immediately extinguished.
· No new burn permits will be issued.
· All previously issued fire permits are revoked.
·         No controlled burns or Fireworks permitted.
The County of Vermilion River and R.M. of Britannia have both told the Border Pulse no restrictions are in effect at this time.
“We haven’t moved to a fire advisory as of today (May 8), however, we are constantly monitoring conditions and calls,” County of Vermilion River Chief of Protective Services Kirk Hughes said in an e-mailed statement.
A phone call with the media relations officer for Britannia revealed the same result, however, they also reminded readers to please watch all burns and be mindful of wind conditions. It only takes a stray spark and you can have a serious incident on your hands.
Nearby the M.D. of Wainwright, County of Two Hills on the Alberta side have some form of restrictions in place, while in Saskatchewan, Turtle River, Cut Knife, Manitou, Hillsdale and Paynton have some forms of restrictions as well.
