County of Vermilion River firefighters from Blackfoot Fire and Rescue responded to grassfire on May 4.

“First arriving crews found a running stubble fire which was extinguished with hand tools as wildland engines, supported by Tankers, made quick work of the head and body of the fire,” stated County of Vermilion River officials. “Due to gusting winds, mutual aid was dispatched from Paradise Valley Fire Department.”

It was determined a bird strike on a powerline is what started the fire and knocked out power to some ATCO customers. The current outage map for our area shows about 28 customers out of power south of the City.

This is the second fire in three days for the two departments to work together on.
