Lloydminster RCMP arrested dozens of people and issued hundreds of tickets and warnings during a four-day crime reduction operation last week.
The operation ran from July 14 to July 17. It targeted non-compliant drivers, people with outstanding arrest warrants and locations known for ongoing enforcement issues.
Several agencies took part alongside Lloydminster RCMP. They included the Lloydminster General Investigative Services and Crime Reduction Unit, K Division RCMP Air Services and Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services.
F Division Crime Reduction Teams, the Saskatchewan Marshals Service and F Division Combined Traffic Services also joined the operation. So did the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, Kitscoty Crime Reduction Unit and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team.
Police stopped more than 200 vehicles over the four days. The operation resulted in:
- 118 provincial violation tickets
- 197 warnings
- 17 drug-related suspensions or impounds
- 11 alcohol-related suspensions or impounds
- 28 vehicles seized
- Two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges
- 16 additional Criminal Code charges
- 52 warrants for arrest executed
- Various bylaw contraventions and recovered stolen property
“Operations such as this deter crime, in addition to making drivers become more aware of obeying traffic laws which makes our city safer,” said Cpl. Jason DeCoste of the Lloydminster RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.
“By bringing in partner agencies and other RCMP units we are able to effectively enforce laws with a goal of enhancing safety for all residents,” DeCoste said.
Charges against those arrested have not been proven in court.
