A sewer backup forced the closure of Prairie North Health Centre and Prairie North Plaza in Lloydminster this week, the Saskatchewan Health Authority said.
A sewer line backed up July 20, sending sewage into the building during an assessment Tuesday morning, the health authority said.
The facility at 4910 50 Street closed Tuesday for safety reasons while crews dealt with the damage.
Crews found the blocked line and completed remediation work Tuesday, the health authority said. The building will reopen Wednesday with normal hours and services.
About 100 appointments were rescheduled or redirected. Another 32 patients received care another way, including virtual appointments or care at another location, the health authority said.
The walk-in clinic was cancelled Tuesday. Staff normally working in the building were reassigned to other tasks, including help with rescheduled appointments.
BorderPulse also asked about the parkade attached to the building, which has been closed since last month. The health authority said inspectors found structural concerns with the parkade in June, prompting an early closure ahead of repair work already planned for later this year.
An assessment of the parkade is still underway, the health authority said. No timeline for reopening was given, and the health authority did not answer follow-up questions about whether the structure is currently safe.
The health authority said the sewer backup and the parkade closure are not connected.
BorderPulse also asked how long the second floor of the building has been inaccessible to patients, a concern some patients raised in recent weeks. The health authority did not address that question.
“We are grateful to the staff who worked together to resolve this issue so quickly,” the health authority said in a statement.
