A 25-year-old Onion Lake man is facing 10 charges after a highway rollover led to a stolen truck, a police chase and an assault at a local business.
Maidstone RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 17 at approximately 6:35 a.m. on July 22, 2026. The crash happened about 1 kilometre south of Sandy Beach.
Officers and EMS responded to the scene.
RCMP said investigators determined the male driver stole a truck from a passerby who had stopped to help. No one else was inside the truck when it fled south on Highway 17.
Onion Lake RCMP were called in to assist.
Officers located the stolen truck and the male driver a short time later. They activated emergency equipment and tried to stop the truck, but the driver fled.
The male eventually abandoned the truck at a business in Onion Lake.
RCMP said he then assaulted a person at the business and tried to steal their vehicle. Officers arrived and arrested him.
Garrett Stanley, 25, of Onion Lake, Saskatchewan, has been charged with:
- one count, robbery, Section 344, Criminal Code
- one count, theft of truck, Section 333.1(1), Criminal Code
- one count, assault on peace officer with weapon or causing bodily harm, Section 270.01(2), Criminal Code
- one count, taking motor vehicle without consent of owner, Section 335(1), Criminal Code
- one count, operation while impaired, Section 320.14(1)(a), Criminal Code
- one count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18, Criminal Code
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code
- one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code
- one count, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code
None of the charges have been proven in court.
Stanley appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 23, 2026.
Lloydminster RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team and Police Dog Services assisted with the investigation.
The adult male passenger from the original rollover stayed at the scene and was taken to hospital by EMS. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.
