Grassfire season is well underway in the area after multiple incidents kept departments busy across the area on May 2.
The first call came in for Vermilion Fire and Rescue Society just after noon for a fire south of Vermilion in some stubble and brought it under control by just before 2 p.m..
At 12:30 Maidstone Waseca and District Fire and Rescue responded to a grass fire off of 474. Upon arrival the found a fire which had burned itself out. They proceeded to run lines and soak the perimeter to prevent further spread.
At around 2:30 Paradise Valley Fire Department was dispatched to grassfire off of range road 13 south of 619.
“Upon arrival, crews found a running grassfire that had entered into a thicket of bush and trees, with structures nearby a second alarm was struck to Blackfoot Fire and Rescue for assistance,” stated officials from County of Vermilion River. “Firefighters, working in tandem with wildland engines and tankers, managed to fully extinguish the fire shortly before 6 p.m. holding the fire at approximately 8 acres.”
As that one was burning Legacy Regional Protective Services were sent to a reported fire off of Township Road 490 it was brought under control within the hour of arrival.








Regional Chief Dean Peters notified The Border Pulse that burn permits for the region were discontinued on May 1. He request that anyone with a current burn permit keep an eye on the fires and don’t leave them unattended.
These fires add to one that Britannia on April 29 at 2:30 p.m.
“A Grass fire in a pasture was able to be soaked down as neighbours helped extinguish the flames before our arrival,” stated officials on a FB post. “Pumper 1, Tanker 1, Wildland 1 (with the side by side) responded and ensured plenty of water was laid down all over the property.”
Officials from across the area are warning of extremely dry conditions. The wildfire rating maps for the area show between extreme and very high danger conditions.
