A Lakeland College apprentice from the Lloydminster region has done it again.

Braden Kereliuk won gold in the steamfitter-pipefitter category at the 2026 Provincial Skills Canada Alberta Competition, held May 6 and 7 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. It is his second consecutive provincial title in the trade.

The win earns Kereliuk a spot on Team Alberta for the Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto, running May 27 to 30.

“Braden’s second straight gold medal is an incredible accomplishment and reflects the dedication, skill and work ethic he brings to his trade,” said Dave King, dean of Lakeland College’s School of Trades and Technology.

“We’re proud of all our students who competed at provincials and represented Lakeland so well. Best of luck to Braden as he competes in Toronto later this month!”

Kereliuk was one of 11 Lakeland students who travelled to Edmonton to compete across seven categories. Other competitors representing the college included Drew Dutertre and Connor Balash in automobile technology, Deyton Selte in carpentry, Alexandre Lacasse in electrical installations, Curt Dyberg and Ethan Randell in heavy equipment technology, Pearl Clarke and Brooke Bender in esthetics, and Kara Delisle and Breanna Dyck in hairstyling.

Lakeland’s apprenticeship programs cover a range of trades, including carpenter, electrician, steamfitter-pipefitter, heavy equipment technician, welder and others. The college also offers programs through its spa and salon in esthetics, hairstyling, health care aide and barber.
