RCMP STOCK 3

Kitscoty RCMP is warning residents in the Marwayne area about a man who impersonated an ATCO Electric employee while attempting to access a homeowner’s electrical equipment.

According to RCMP, the man attended a residence in the Village of Marwayne and identified himself as an ATCO worker. He asked the homeowner to remove a lock from electrical equipment in the yard and said he was going to shut off the power.

The homeowner asked for identification. Police said the man refused to provide ID or a business card.

The man also positioned himself to block the homeowner’s view of the rear of his vehicle, RCMP said, and continued to move whenever the homeowner tried to see around him.

He left the property after the homeowner refused to comply and grew suspicious, RCMP said.

The homeowner later called ATCO directly. The company told them no one had been assigned to attend their residence that day.

Mounties described the man as follows.

  • Medium complexion
  • Approximately 6 feet tall
  • Approximately 190 to 200 pounds
  • Curly black hair with a beard
  • Wearing jeans, a button up shirt and a blue vest with yellow reflective stripes

He was driving a newer, possibly 2020 to 2024, two-door white Dodge pickup truck, RCMP said.

Police are reminding residents to ask for identification from any unexpected visitor and to call the company a person claims to represent before letting them inside or complying with any request.

Anyone who has a similar encounter is asked to contact RCMP immediately.
