Lloydminster city council sits Monday afternoon with a full agenda – and a revised 2026 budget at the top of the pile.

The revision touches both the operating and capital sides of the city’s finances. Tax rate direction and a notable mid-year spending adjustment are among the items council will consider. The capital budget reflects $66 million in approved spending for 2026.

Council will also vote on final readings of a multi-million dollar borrowing bylaw tied to a landfill infrastructure project, and first reading of the annual Mill Rate Bylaw – the step that sets the formal tax rate for the year.

Rounding out the agenda: a new policy governing how the city books concerts and special events at the Cenovus Energy Hub, and an amendment to the facility’s naming rights agreement with Cenovus Energy.

They will also be asked to proclaim May 18 to 24 as Treaties Recognition Week. The proclamation comes as Lloydminster approaches the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6, with the city situated on that traditional territory.

A board appointment is also on the table – Doug Robertson is nominated to serve on both the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board and the Intermunicipal Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, with a term running to April 2029.

Council meets at 1:30 p.m. in council chambers. BorderPulse will have full coverage following the meeting.
