A Lloydminster man facing hate-related and firearms charges has been given another court date.

John Reid appeared in Saskatchewan Provincial Court where his matter was adjourned for election until April 20.

The case had previously been set for March 30 for disclosure but has now returned to the election stage.

What election means

An election in criminal court allows the accused to choose how they wish to be tried – by a provincial court judge alone or by judge and jury in Court of King’s Bench.

Reid is facing hate-crime related charges along with firearms offences stemming from an earlier investigation by Lloydminster RCMP.

At the time, police said there was no imminent threat to the public.

According to court officials records show the matter remains before the court and another date has been set to appear in front of the courts.

The charges have not been proven in court.
