A Lloydminster man is facing four charges after police recovered nearly $16,000 in stolen property tied to a string of break-ins at active construction sites across the city.
Jamie Alexander Simons, 35, was arrested April 28 following a joint investigation by the Lloydminster RCMP Community Response Unit and the Lloydminster RCMP Detachment.
How the investigation unfolded
The CRU launched the investigation after multiple local construction sites reported break-ins and stolen property. Officers were alerted when suspected stolen items appeared for sale on an online platform.
With assistance from the public, investigators identified a male suspect. Officers then observed him conduct a sale in the area of 31 Street and 57 Avenue before moving in.
Police confirmed the man had exchanged an item reported as stolen for cash. He was arrested at the scene.
Search warrant, charges
Following his arrest, CRU officers obtained and executed a search warrant on Simons’ residence.
Simons has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5,000, for the purposes of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, proceeds of crime
- Trafficking in stolen property under $5,000 (two counts)
He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was released from custody. Simons is scheduled to appear next in court May 19 in the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster.
Property being returned
Police recovered nearly $16,000 in stolen property during the search. Lloydminster RCMP say much of it has already been returned to the local businesses involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
