A joint crime-reduction effort involving the Lloydminster RCMP Crime Reduction Team led to the seizure of firearms and drugs during an arrest operation in the RM of Mervin.

Saskatchewan RCMP said members of the Lloydminster and North Battleford Crime Reduction Teams were working in the Turtleford detachment area Feb. 25 to locate people wanted on outstanding warrants.

With assistance from Turtleford RCMP, officers attended a residence in the RM of Mervin where they located a woman wanted on multiple warrants related to RCMP investigations in both Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The woman was arrested at the residence. A second woman inside the home was also taken into custody.

Police later obtained a search warrant for the residence and a vehicle on the property.

During the search, officers seized three firearms, one airgun, ammunition and firearm magazines, 3.5 kilograms of illicit cannabis, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 120 pharmaceutical-style tablets and 1.2 grams of cocaine.

Sherry Thunderchild, 39, of Thunderchild First Nation and Brittany Brown, 40, of Turtleford each face multiple charges including unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence or registration, careless use of a firearm, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of firearms knowing possession was unauthorized, possession of cocaine and possession of methamphetamine.

Thunderchild was also arrested on several outstanding warrants.

Both women appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 27.

Saskatchewan RCMP say the investigation by the Lloydminster and North Battleford Crime Reduction Teams is ongoing.
