A Lloydminster RCMP K9 team was sent to Mundare, Alta., after reports of gunfire between two pickup trucks.

Vegreville RCMP received multiple reports of a firearms complaint at 7:19 p.m. on Sept. 29, RCMP said in an Oct. 9 news release.

Callers said two pickup trucks were racing through the town. An occupant of one truck allegedly fired a gun at the other.

Investigators identified the vehicles as a GMC Sierra and a Ford F-350. RCMP said police determined the Ford’s occupant shot at the Sierra.

Vegreville RCMP responded with help from the RCMP Real Time Operations Centre. Detachments in Two Hills, Smoky Lake, St. Paul, Fort Saskatchewan and Sherwood Park sent members.

Police Dog Services from Lloydminster and St. Paul were also deployed. So were the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, the North Emergency Response Team and Integrated Offender Management.

The Edmonton Police Service AIR1 helicopter located the Ford. Officers tried a traffic stop from the ground, but the truck fled in a rural area.

Police later stopped the truck and took the driver into custody with no further incident. RCMP said no officers or members of the public were hurt.

Police arrested Kobi Rosichuk, 30, of Bonnyville and charged him with 18 offences.

Those include three counts of flight from a peace officer. He also faces two counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.

Other charges include assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, discharging a firearm with intent, break and enter and possession while prohibited. He also faces three counts of mischief over $5,000, two counts of mischief causing danger to life and a charge of unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle.

The charges are allegations. They have not been tested in court, and Rosichuk is presumed innocent.

Rosichuk was remanded into custody after a judicial interim release hearing. He was scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Vegreville on Oct. 5. The release did not say what happened at that appearance.
