An 18-year-old from Lloydminster has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting earlier this month on the QE II Highway south of Leduc.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit confirmed 22-year-old Birinder Singh was the victim of the March 14 shooting.

Police say Jimmy Gassner, 18, was arrested March 21 in Canoe Lake, Sask.

Gassner is charged with second-degree murder and has been remanded into custody. He is being transported to Alberta, where a court date has not yet been set.

“Despite the laying of these charges, we know that there will be many questions regarding suspects and motivations,” said Staff Sgt. John Brown of the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

“Please understand that our ability to answer these questions is limited while our officers continue their important work.”

RCMP say the investigation remains ongoing and more updates will be provided as they become available.
