Three Onion Lake men face firearm charges after pursuit

Three Onion Lake men have been charged with multiple firearm offences after RCMP pursued a vehicle across two detachment areas and seized a gun and ammunition.

Onion Lake RCMP received a report on April 7 at approximately 7:10 p.m. of a male with a firearm in a vehicle in Onion Lake.

While officers searched for the car, a second report came in – this time of a firearm discharged from a vehicle in the Maidstone RCMP detachment area near Frenchman Butte. No injuries were reported. The vehicle matched the one Onion Lake RCMP were already searching for.

The pursuit

Officers located a vehicle matching the suspect description travelling at high speed on Highway 797 between Onion Lake and Frenchman Butte. The driver failed to stop for police during a traffic stop attempt.

The vehicle eventually stopped on the side of RC Road in Onion Lake. Officers arrested three male occupants and seized a firearm and ammunition from the vehicle.

The charges

Brooks Dillon, 44, Marcus Dillon, 24, and Nathan Dillon, 30 – all of Onion Lake – are each charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized (s. 92(1) Criminal Code)
  • Two counts of careless use of a firearm (s. 86(1))
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (s. 88(1))
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm or weapon in a motor vehicle (s. 94(1))

Marcus Dillon faces two additional charges:

  • Flight from a peace officer (s. 320.17)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (s. 320.13(1))

Court appearances

Nathan Dillon appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 15. Brooks Dillon is scheduled to appear May 4. Marcus Dillon is scheduled to appear May 20.

Wilton Police Service assisted in the investigation.

Charges have not been proven in court.
