Cold Lake RCMP shot a suspect during a domestic call involving a weapon on Aug. 4, 2026, according to a police news release.
Officers were called to the 5600 block of 54 Street at 9:47 a.m. for a report of a domestic situation involving a weapon, RCMP said.
Responding officers encountered a suspect who was armed, RCMP said. An officer discharged their service weapon, striking the suspect.
The suspect was taken to hospital and is in stable condition, RCMP said. No officers were injured.
RCMP has not released the suspect’s name, age or further details about the incident.
Alberta’s Serious Incident Response Team, known as ASIRT, is now investigating independently of the RCMP. The Police Review Commission CEO was notified and deployed ASIRT, as required under provincial legislation, RCMP said.
“The RCMP believes in accountability and transparency and in so doing will provide full support to the ASIRT investigators,” RCMP said in the release.
The RCMP has also launched its own internal review, separate from the ASIRT investigation. That review will examine training, policy, the police response and the officer’s duty status, RCMP said.
