Lloydminster RCMP say most types of crime in the city dropped during the first quarter of 2026, continuing a trend from earlier in the year.
The detachment released its statistics this week, covering April to June. The RCMP follow the federal fiscal year, which runs from April 1 to March 31, making this the year’s opening quarter.
Break and enters fell sharply to 14 during the quarter, down from 53 during the same quarter last year. Theft of a motor vehicle also dropped, to 22 from 37.
Total Criminal Code offences, which include both persons and property crimes, fell to 1,644 from 2,192 the year prior.
Not every category moved in the same direction. Spousal abuse calls rose to 206, up from 151 last year. Disturbing the peace complaints also increased slightly, to 177 from 158.
Insp. Brian Nicholl, commander of the Lloydminster RCMP detachment, said officers logged 4,732 calls for service during the quarter, 565 more than the previous three months.
The Lloydminster Operations Control Center, which fields 911 calls for both RCMP and the fire department, received 2,304 calls during the same period. Detachment staff completed 599 criminal record checks and logged 539 prisoners through the Lloydminster cell block. RCMP also responded to 155 collisions in the city.
Members laid 768 criminal and provincial charges between April and June. Of those, 138 were for failing to comply with a court order. Twenty-six charges were laid under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Nicholl said the numbers reflect real police files, not social media speculation.
“All calls for service to the police are recorded and files are created prior to a police officer being dispatched,” said Nicholl.
He said each file goes through an emergency dispatch centre before an officer investigates, and once a file is created, it cannot be deleted.
Mental Health Act calls dropped to 81 from 107 the year before. Liquor Act files rose to 37 from 30.
Nicholl credited part of the drop in property crime to residents locking vehicles and securing belongings.
