An 18-year-old Onion Lake man faces six charges after his ATV collided with a parked RCMP vehicle and a suspicious fire broke out nearby hours later, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a release Tuesday.
The trouble began at around 4:25 p.m. on Aug. 23, when a man on an ATV was seen driving erratically in the Onion Lake RCMP detachment parking lot.
The ATV struck an unoccupied, parked police vehicle, causing damage. Flying debris also broke a window on a second cruiser. No injuries were reported.
The driver fled the scene.
At around 7:45 p.m. that evening, RCMP received a report of a vehicle fire on Onion Lake Cree Nation. Investigators determined the fire was suspicious and connected to the earlier collision. No injuries were reported.
RCMP arrested a man nearby.
Deshawn Moostoos, 18, of Onion Lake, is now charged with:
- dangerous operation of a conveyance
- operating a conveyance while disqualified
- failing to stop at the scene of an accident
- mischief under $5,000
- arson causing damage to a motor vehicle
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
The charges have not been tested in court.
Moostoos is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Aug. 27.
The investigation remains active, RCMP said.
