Parents, teachers and caregivers in Lloydminster can learn how social media affects children and youth through a new five-part series.

The City of Lloydminster‘s Mental Health Working Group will host Social Media in a Digital Age starting Oct. 8.

Sessions run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Legacy Centre, 5101 46 Street.

The series is open to parents, grandparents, teachers, caregivers and service providers.

Each week focuses on a different way social media and the internet shape health, wellness and behaviour in young people. Organizers say the goal is to give adults practical tools to help kids navigate an increasingly connected world.

Oct. 8: Social Media and the Effect on Health and Wellness. Ariel Haubrich looks at how technology affects health, relationships and behaviour.

Oct. 15: The Connected Brain. The MHCB LPSD team examines how stress and social media affect brain function and learning.

Oct. 22: Online Safety. Constable Sims covers common online risks and ways to keep kids safe.

Oct. 29: Swipe, Scroll and Repeat. Rhonda Braun shares strategies for healthier online habits.

Nov. 5: Helping Kids Thrive in a Connected World. Lana Lane offers practical tips for digital citizenship.

Registration is free for all five sessions.

Residents facing barriers such as transportation or childcare can contact Family and Community Support Services at FCSS@lloydminster.ca for support.

More information and registration are available at Lloydminster.ca/FCSSEvents.

Organizers say the series is meant to help families build healthier digital habits together as online life keeps changing.
