A pursuit by the Lloydminster Crime Reduction Team ended when a fleeing vehicle rolled on a northern Saskatchewan highway May 9 – but the four people arrested turned out to have no connection to the armed robbery that triggered the search.

Turtleford RCMP had called in the Lloydminster CRT after a robbery at gunpoint on Thunderchild First Nation on May 9. Three suspects in a car and a truck had entered a property, assaulted a resident and stolen an ATV. The victim reported minor injuries.

Officers located a vehicle matching the suspect car near Thunderchild First Nation at approximately 5:50 p.m. When they activated lights and sirens, the driver fled.

The car left the road and rolled approximately 30 kilometres north of North Battleford, on Hwy 794 near the Hwy 4 intersection. Officers arrested the driver and three passengers without incident.

One occupant was taken to hospital as a precaution and later released into RCMP custody.

A search of the vehicle turned up multiple knives, a sword, approximately 4.2 grams of cocaine and 1.2 grams of methamphetamine. Keys to a previously reported stolen vehicle were found on the driver.

Kade Schacher, 22, of Lloydminster, SK, faces:

  • Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
