Two Viking-area men have been charged in connection with thefts from oil sites and railways following an investigation into threats to critical infrastructure.
Travis Moldowan, 39, and Ronald Stewart, 56, both of Viking, Alta., were arrested May 19 after Viking RCMP executed search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation.
The investigation led police to recover thousands of dollars worth of materials stolen from oil sites and railway operations in the area. RCMP say damage to the oil sites cannot be recovered.
Both men face six charges:
- Break and enter
- Theft under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Trespass to premise
Moldowan and Stewart were released on conditions. Pre-charge approval has since been granted.
They are scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Vegreville on July 13.
Viking RCMP thanked local businesses for their cooperation in the investigation.
