Reports from multiple sources close to Alberta’s United Conservative Party report one of their MLA’s won’t be running for his seat in the upcoming election.
The MLA for Wainwright-Lloydminster-Vermilion, Garth Rowswell, has indicated to close friends and the party he intends to step away from provincial politics.

The Border Pulse contacted Rowswell’s constituency office and requested confirmation. Staff declined to comment and would not deny details about a possible departure.
People close to one of the individuals looking to replace him have confirmed the UCP is in the process of looking for a candidate to run in the upcoming election.
Rowswell was first elected in 2019, he was re-elected with 74% of the vote in 2023.
