It has been years in the making and months since the announcement, but Canadian Natural Resources Field is finally ready. The timing could not be better.

The Holy Rosary Raiders rolled past Stettler over the weekend with a 48-9 win. St. Paul held up its end with a victory over Ardrossan, setting up a rematch in the provincial semifinal. The two teams will meet Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. in Lloydminster.

It has been a trying season for the Raiders. With the teachers’ strike in Alberta, players were unsure they would even get to take the field this fall. The shortened schedule meant the undefeated Raiders, now 6-0, could not afford to stumble, and they have not.

Two weeks ago they came back from a 7-2 halftime deficit to beat the St. Paul Lions. Against Stettler, they left no doubt about who controlled the game from start to finish.

Saturday’s forecast calls for a mild +2 with wind, a great day for late-season football as Lloydminster hosts a provincial showdown.
