Cold Lake man dead after head-on collision on Highway 55

A 35-year-old Cold Lake man is dead after a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck on Highway 55 east of Bonnyville this morning.

Bonnyville RCMP responded to the crash near Range Road 480 at approximately 8:30 a.m. May 15. The pickup truck driver was declared deceased on scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The semi-truck driver, a 39-year-old Cold Lake man, was assessed on scene for non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment. He was also the sole occupant of his vehicle.

Highway 55 remains reduced to one lane while cleanup crews finish at the scene. Drivers are asked to slow down around emergency personnel. Alberta 511 has the latest road conditions.

Bonnyville RCMP were assisted by Alberta RCMP’s Real Time Operations Centre, an RCMP Collision Analyst, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, Associated Ambulance, Cold Lake RCMP, Bonnyville Community Peace Officers and Emcon Services Inc.

RCMP have sent condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
