A Lloydminster Village homeowner is crediting Lloydminster Fire Rescue crews for preventing what could have become a far more serious house fire Friday evening.
In an exclusive interview with Border Pulse, the homeowner described how a malfunctioning stove ignited a fire around 7:30 p.m.
A neighbour reported seeing a couple of fire trucks and a command unit respond to the scene.
The fire was contained to the stove and did not spread beyond the kitchen area.
The owner of the property said the appliance would not shut off properly. Crews later determined there was a gas connection issue contributing to the problem and shut off the gas supply to the unit.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and ensured the home was safe before clearing the scene.
Minor burns were treated on scene. The homeowner’s pets were safely removed and protected throughout the response.
“It could have been so much worse,” the homeowner said.
“They took control of the scene and made sure we were safe.”
Aside from melted material inside the oven and lingering smoke odour, no significant structural damage was reported.
The homeowner said from 911 dispatch to firefighters on scene, the response was fast and professional.
“They were incredible.”
