Hillmond Redden Arena is giving hockey fans a chance to watch the Edmonton Oilers from a spot most people never get to see.

The arena board is currently running a raffle for four tickets to the Oilers’ St. Patrick’s Day game against the San Jose Sharks. The prize includes a table in the exclusive PCL Loge Lounge and one night of accommodation.

The tickets were donated by Scorpion Oilfield.

Proceeds from the raffle will go toward planned renovations at the Hillmond arena aimed at improving viewing areas inside the building.

Board members say the upgrades are especially important for grandparents and family members who prefer to watch games from the warmer lobby seating.

The rink is home to Hillmond Minor Hockey, the Hillmond Skating Club, which offers CanSkate, the Hillmond Hitmen, Lloydminster Xtreme Lacrosse, several recreational teams and private rentals.

Organizers say the rink plays a larger role in the community than simply hosting games.

Hillmond is a unique rural community with a school, hall and arena, but no businesses.

That makes gathering spaces like the rink even more important, board members say.

Raffle organizers are inviting residents across the region to support the project while taking a shot at an Oilers experience few fans typically access.
