Motorists travelling between Edmonton and Saskatoon via Highway 16 should expect winter driving conditions throughout the corridor today.
As of 8 a.m., road reports indicate snow-covered and partially covered conditions along the entire Highway 16 route, with visibility ranging from good to limited depending on location and snowfall intensity.
Current conditions include:
- Highway 16 between Edmonton and Lloydminster: partially covered
- Highway 16 between Lloydminster and Saskatoon: partially covered
- Visibility: good in some areas, reduced at times
- Temperature: around minus 16 C
- Wind chill: near minus 22
- Winds: south at about 9 km/h
Environment Canada reports cloudy conditions with a 60 per cent chance of flurries this morning, with additional snow expected later tonight and into Friday. Light winds will limit blowing snow, but untreated sections may remain slick.
What to watch for today:
- Snow-covered stretches with reduced traction
- Variable visibility in active snowfall
- Increased frostbite risk during stops or in the event of a breakdown
Motorists are reminded to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destination. Winter driving conditions are expected to persist into the weekend with additional snowfall forecast.
