Motorists travelling between Edmonton and Saskatoon via Highway 16 should expect mixed winter driving conditions today, with mostly good travel and a few areas requiring caution.
As of 8 a.m., reports indicate bare pavement for much of the stretch between Edmonton and Lloydminster, with one small section just east of Edmonton marked as partially covered.

Between Lloydminster and Saskatoon, Highway 16 is reported as partially covered in most areas, with short clear sections near Lloydminster and near Saskatoon.

- Highway 16 between Edmonton and Lloydminster: bare except for a small partially covered stretch east of Edmonton
- Highway 16 between Lloydminster and Saskatoon: partially covered to covered, with brief clear sections near Lloydminster and Saskatoon
- Visibility: good
- Temperature: around minus 19 C
- Wind chill: near minus 29
- Winds: northwest up to 15 km/h
Environment Canada says periods of snow will taper off late this morning, followed by cloudy conditions and a 60 per cent chance of flurries. Additional snowfall of five to 10 centimetres is expected overnight, with northwest winds increasing and gusting up to 40 km/h, which may reduce visibility at times.
What to watch for today:
- Partially covered sections with reduced traction
- Blowing snow later today and overnight
- Frostbite risk during stops or in the event of a breakdown
Drivers are reminded to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destination. Conditions may deteriorate again tonight as snow and wind increase.
