Lloydminster Fire Rescue is opening its doors for Fire Prevention Week.
The free, family-friendly open house runs Thursday, Oct. 1, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 2706 59 Ave.
This year’s theme is battery and charging safety. The department wants residents to know how to safely charge, use and store the devices and batteries they rely on every day.
Visitors can meet local firefighters, tour the fire station and see the equipment up close. The event includes interactive activities and demonstrations throughout the evening.
Planned activities include bouncy castles, fire hose target shooting, fire extinguisher practice, and fire truck and station tours. Sparky the Fire Dog will also make an appearance.
Residents can learn how to recognize battery warning signs, choose the right charging equipment and reduce fire risks when charging devices at home.
“Fire Prevention Week is a great chance to welcome residents into the fire station, have some fun, and talk about simple ways we can all help prevent fires,” said Chad Penner, Lloydminster’s assistant fire chief.
“We use battery-powered devices every day, often without giving them much thought,” said Penner. “This year’s focus is a good reminder that a few simple charging habits can make a real difference in keeping our homes and families safe.”
The open house is free, and no registration is required.
