Three people are facing 68 charges after Saskatchewan RCMP seized seven types of illicit drugs and three firearms during a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Lloydminster.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Lloydminster Crime Reduction Team received a report on Aug. 18 at about 5 p.m. of an armed man travelling toward the Lloydminster or Battlefords area.
Officers located the vehicle on Highway 16 and conducted a traffic stop. Three occupants were arrested at the scene.
What police seized
A search of the vehicle and the arrested individuals turned up the following:
- 447 grams of fentanyl
- 761 grams of cocaine
- 85 grams of methamphetamine
- 226 grams of psilocybin
- 700 millilitres of gamma hydroxybutyrate
- 2,627 pharmaceutical-style oxycodone pills
- 441 pharmaceutical-style Xanax pills
- three firearms, including a loaded handgun
- three loaded firearm magazines
- close to 1,000 rounds of ammunition
Further investigation found one of the occupants had removed a court-ordered electronic monitoring device earlier that day.
Charges laid
Omar Cristiano Caceres, 28, of Bonnyville, Alta., is charged with:
- three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- three counts, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- one count, possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence
- one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number
- seven counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking
- six counts, weapons possession contrary to an order
- five counts, possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing possession was unauthorized
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over 5,000 dollars
Caceres was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.
Zanielle Demarais, 26, of Lloydminster, Sask., is charged with:
- three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- three counts, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- one count, possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence
- one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number
- seven counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking
- five counts, possession of a firearm while knowing possession was unauthorized
Kevin Kahmahkotayo, 30, of Lloydminster, Sask., is charged with:
- three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- three counts, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- one count, possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence
- one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number
- seven counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking
- one count, failing to comply with a release order condition
- five counts, possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing possession was unauthorized
All three appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Aug. 20.
