Lloydminster Little Theatre is serving up something different starting Nov. 20 as the company prepares to open The Dining Room, a fast-paced drama by A. R. Gurney that features 18 scenes and nearly 60 characters.

Director Cornelius Krahn said audiences can expect an emotional mix of humour, nostalgia, and moments that reflect their own lives.

“This production is called The Dining Room. It is a vignette-based play with 18 different scenes,” said Krahn.

“Twenty actors are playing about 58 parts. Everybody has multiple roles. They come in and out, change costumes, change how they talk, change how they look. It’s fantastic to watch.”

The show represents months of preparation. Krahn said cast members spent hundreds of hours learning lines, building characters, and choreographing fast transitions backstage.

“The amount of work people put in on their own time and in rehearsals is ridiculous,” said Krahn.

“I want people to understand the talent we have in Lloydminster. These 20 people are doing a fantastic job.”

The production opens Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Lloydminster Legacy Centre and runs through the weekend. Evening shows start at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s performance is a 2 p.m. matinee.

Tickets are available online through Eventbrite, at the Legacy Centre during business hours, or at the door. Krahn said the easiest way for newcomers to get involved in future productions is to sign up for email alerts at lloydminsterlittletheatre.com or follow the group on Facebook and Instagram.

The show runs about two hours with a 15 to 20 minute intermission and refreshments available on site.
