Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers has been reappointed to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors, securing the city’s representation in national policy discussions for another term.
The reappointment came at FCM’s Annual General Meeting, held during the federation’s Annual Conference and Trade Show in Edmonton.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors,” Aalbers said. “Lloydminster is a unique community, and it is important that communities of our size and character have a voice in national discussions.”
Aalbers said he looks forward to working with municipal leaders from across Canada to advance priorities that improve quality of life for residents.
FCM is the national voice of municipal governments, representing more than 2,000 member communities that together account for more than 90 per cent of the Canadian population.
As a board member, he will help set policy priorities based on concerns raised by municipal governments. The board meets throughout the year to review and adopt recommendations from its standing policy committees on issues including infrastructure, housing, public safety, and climate change.
Board positions are elected annually at FCM’s general meeting. For more on what the FCM does head here Home | Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
