One arrested after Onion Lake high school arson

Police received a report of a break and enter at the school at about 5:45 a.m. on June 27, 2026. Officers responded along with Onion Lake Cree Nation Peacekeepers.

While searching the school, officers discovered a fire had broken out inside the building. Onion Lake Cree Nation Fire Rescue crews responded. Nobody was inside the building at the time.

Investigators determined the fire was suspicious.

Romeo Dillon, 22, of Onion Lake Cree Nation, faces four charges:

• mischief over $5,000, damage to property, under Section 430(3) of the Criminal Code

• breaking and entering and committing an offence, under Section 348(1)(a)

• arson causing damage to property, under Section 434

• theft under $5,000, under Section 334(b)

Dillon appeared in court in Onion Lake on July 6, 2026. The case is listed under Information #90573410.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Battleford Forensic Identification Section assisted with the investigation.
