Lloydminster RCMP have charged a 32-year-old man with multiple criminal charges, including arson, following a weekend structure fire in Lloydminster.
Gabriel Peter Waylin, 32, of Shadow Lake, faces the following charges. Recklessly causing damage by fire, assault, uttering threats, and mischief by setting fire in connection with the Dec. 28 incident.
The arson-related charge falls under Section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada, which applies when damage is caused by fire in a reckless manner.

Waylin was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Court on Jan. 19.
Fire investigation:
The charges stem from a structure fire reported Sunday afternoon in the 4600 block of 45 Street on Lloydminster’s east side.
A member of the public alerted The Border Pulse to the incident at approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 28. Thick black smoke could be seen from kilometres away as the fire tore through the home.

Multiple units from Lloydminster Fire Rescue responded. Crews arrived to find the residence fully involved.
Damage was visible on the primary home as well as a neighbouring residence.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta said officers were first called to the residence at 1:44 p.m. for reports of an unwanted person. Police said the situation later developed into the fire firefighters were called to deal with.
45 Street was closed between 46 Avenue and 47 Avenue while emergency crews worked at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
