Pierceland RCMP are investigating a fatal shooting on Big Island Lake Cree Nation that left one person dead and three others injured.

On Dec. 30, 2025, at approximately 6 a.m., police received a report of a shooting on the reserve. Officers responded immediately.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three additional people were located injured. RCMP have not released details on the extent of the injuries or how many victims required hospital treatment.

Formal identification of the deceased is ongoing in consultation with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Saskatchewan RCMP are working to determine whether the shooting was random or targeted.

At 8:23 a.m., RCMP issued a dangerous persons alert for Big Island Lake Cree Nation and surrounding areas. Police say two suspects remain at large.

The alert remains in effect. Residents in the area are advised to shelter in place, lock their doors, and avoid travel. Anyone who sees the suspects is asked not to approach them and to call 911 immediately. Police also ask the public not to share officer locations.

RCMP say there is no evidence at this time linking this incident to the armed robbery reported near Maidstone on Dec. 28. Both investigations are ongoing.
