Thick black smoke could be seen from kilometers away as a structure fire tore through a home on Lloydminster’s east side Sunday afternoon.

A member of the public alerted The Border Pulse to the incident at approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the 4600 block of 45 Street.

Multiple units from Lloydminster Fire Rescue (LFR) responded. Crews arrived to find the home fully involved.

Damage was visible on the primary residence as well as a neighbouring home.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta confirmed officers were first called to the residence at 1:44 p.m. for reports of an unwanted person.

Police say the incident later developed into a the blaze firefighters were called to deal with. The matter remains under investigation.

45 Street was closed between 46 Avenue and 47 Avenue while emergency crews worked at the scene.

No cause has been released, and no injuries were reported as of publication.
