A Lloydminster man has been charged after RCMP seized multiple firearms during an investigation into credible threats of violence against identifiable groups.
According to RCMP, the Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at a local residence on Dec. 2 and located multiple firearms along with evidence connected to the investigation.
Police say 38-year-old John Charles Reid, of Lloydminster, has been charged with unauthorized possession of firearms, unsafe storage of firearms, and wilful promotion of hatred.
Reid was released on conditions following a hearing before a justice of the peace. He is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Jan. 12, 2026. RCMP noted that the investigation is ongoing.
“This investigation reflects our continued commitment to ensuring the safety of our community and responding decisively to threats of violence or hate,” Sergeant Christopher Byford, Acting Operations NCO with Lloydminster RCMP, said in a statement.
“We take any form of hate-motivated communication or violence-related behaviour seriously,” Byford said.
