Vermilion RCMP have charged a Unity, Sask. man following a reported sexual assault at Lakeland College.
Police received the complaint on Nov. 30 and began an investigation that led to the arrest of 20-year-old Cameron Kelly on Dec. 4. He is charged with sexual exploitation and sexual assault.
Kelly was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on Jan. 5.
“Gender-based violence is a serious and ongoing issue in Canada and it disproportionately affects women and girls” said Cst. Jocelyn Hey of the Vermilion RCMP.
“Places like Vermilion are not immune. It’s important that, as a community, we work toward educating ourselves and supporting survivors of this type of violence.”
