Sunday scrap at Lloydminster church leads to arrest

Lloydminster RCMP have charged a 41-year-old man after a greeter was assaulted during Sunday service at a Lloydminster church on Dec. 7.

Police say the assault happened between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. on Sunday. The report was made at 9:42 a.m., after a man entered the building, became aggressive and punched the greeter during an interaction at the door. The suspect was tossed out of the church before fleeing on foot according to witnesses.

Officers located the 41-year-old male, matching the description a short time later and arrested him.

“He was taken into custody and charged with assault, mischief under five thousand dollars, breach of a common law peace bond and breach of a release order,” said Cpl. Mathew Howell of the Alberta RCMP.

The individual was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 16.

The 74-year-old senior was was assaulted inside the church was not seriously injured.
