A transport truck collision has left oil and diesel fuel on Highway 16 through Lloydminster, triggering an environmental response and reducing the busy corridor to a single lane in each direction.
Reports of a incident on 44 street began reaching The Border Pulse around 5:30 a.m. this morning (May 15). The City of Lloydminster issued a roads update at 7:31 a.m. – more than two hours later – confirming the lane reduction but making no mention of a fuel spill or environmental response.
The spill occurred near 47 Ave. and 44 St. Witnesses told us the truck appeared to have struck something before spilling fluids across the roadway, It was towed away around 7 a.m. RCMP had no report of any incident in the area and could not provide any official details.
Emergency crews have contained the spread at a drain near 47 Ave. Workers at the scene said a vacuum truck is on its way to assist with what is expected to be a significant cleanup effort.
Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction in the normally westbound lanes between 49 Ave. and 45 Ave. Motorists should expect delays.
There is no timeline for the roadway to fully reopen.
