A Lloydminster-based RCMP trafficking team led an investigation that ended with a fentanyl and methamphetamine seizure in Edmonton, along with an imitation firearm.

Saskatchewan RCMP‘s Lloydminster Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team was working an ongoing investigation in Edmonton on Aug. 12 when officers spotted two people with a firearm in a parking lot on 103 Street Northwest.

Edmonton Police Service was called in to help with the arrests.

A female suspect was arrested without incident. A male suspect resisted and tried to flee before officers took him into custody.

A search of the man turned up an imitation firearm, 5.2 grams of fentanyl, 3.7 grams of methamphetamine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia, RCMP said.

Corey Meesto, 36, of Onion Lake, is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, for fentanyl and methamphetamine. He also faces one count each of failing to comply, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Meesto was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Lloydminster RCMP and Edmonton Police Service.

RCMP “K” Division has confirmed he was brought before a justice and released. He is scheduled to appear in Edmonton provincial court on Aug. 20.

The female suspect was released without charge.

St. Albert RCMP assisted with the investigation. The Lloydminster Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team continues to investigate.

The charges against Meesto have not been proven in court.
