Two drivers were caught travelling in the wrong direction on Highway 16 within four days of each other – one near Maidstone, one near Paynton.
The first call came in March 26. Multiple people phoned in a vehicle heading eastbound in the westbound lane. RCMP located the vehicle. The driver received a roadside suspension and tickets.
Three days later, on March 29, a Dodge Ram was reported westbound in the eastbound lanes near Paynton, moving at a slow rate of speed. Members found the vehicle. The driver failed the roadside breath test and received a three-day licence suspension and a three-day vehicle impound. The vehicle was towed.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
Highway 16 carries heavy commercial and passenger traffic through the region. Drivers who spot a wrong-way vehicle are urged to pull over safely and call 9-1-1 immediately.
