Maidstone RCMP responded to 81 calls for service between Feb. 10 and Feb. 24, ranging from fraud and theft to impaired driving and a vehicle fleeing police.
$12,000 lost in bitcoin scam
On Feb. 10, members received a report of an elderly male in the RM of Britannia being defrauded of $12,000 through a bitcoin scheme.
RCMP did not release further details but continue to warn residents to be cautious when transferring funds or cryptocurrency to unknown individuals.
Vehicle flees, later located
On Feb. 20, officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the RM of Eldon that fled from police.
A description of the vehicle and licence plate was obtained. The vehicle was later located in Onion Lake, where an adult male was arrested.
Police say the accused faces several charges, including possession of stolen property and flight from a peace officer. He was held to appear in court.
Impaired charge after refusal
On Feb. 21, RCMP officers on patrol in the Town of Maidstone located a vehicle driving erratically.
The adult male driver refused to provide a roadside breath sample and was arrested and charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and impaired operation.
Unusual calls among the files
Among the more unusual incidents, officers responded to a report of a motorist who became lost and accidentally locked themselves inside a secure compound at a commercial property in the RM of Wilton. Police assisted in freeing the driver and vehicle.
In another call, members conducted extensive patrols after receiving a report of a person not dressed for the weather walking along Highway 16 in the RM of Eldon. No one was located and no further calls were received.
Police also assisted with multiple mental health-related calls, property damage complaints and thefts from oilfield sites during the two-week period.
