Good morning border region, it’s Monday, Jan. 26 and this is your morning border brief. The extreme cold we had been facing has left the region for the time being and the weekend was relatively quiet for major news, so lets get too it.

In news:
Firefighters battled frigid temperatures Friday night while responding to a contents fire. The call came in around 8:10 p.m., and crews were able to quickly bring the situation under control. Forty Street at 57 Avenue was closed while crews worked on scene.
Last week, the Province of Saskatchewan and the federal government announced a combined $4.5 million investment to support additional livestock research across the province.
And finally, the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference declined to release some information requested last week related to its decision to remove Lakeland College as host of the provincial womenโs volleyball championship. The Border Pulse will have more on that later this morning.

Commodities
March spring wheat closed Friday at $5.29 per bushel, up about 14 cents on the day.
March canola closed at $651.70 per tonne, gaining $4.50.
March feeder cattle closed at $360.18 per hundredweight, edging higher.
March oats closed at $2.97 per bushel, higher on the session.
Energy Stocks
Western Canadian Select crude was trading at US$45.47 per barrel, sharply higher.
West Texas Intermediate crude was trading around US$61.07 per barrel, also higher.
Shares of Cenovus Energy rose Friday, finishing higher on the day.
Shares of Strathcona Resources also closed higher.
Traffic:
Roads from Saskatoon through to Lloydminster are a mix of bare and partially covered. Maidstone to North Battleford being the section that is partially covered this morning. 17 to Onion Lake beyond the river is also considered partially covered. 16 headed to Edmonton is bare minus a single section near Edmonton.

Weather:
We are headed to a high of -13 today, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. As of 6 a.m. at the Lloydminster airport it’s -18 feeling like -26. Our winds are out of the west northwest at 18 km/h.

Aidanย Martens had the game winning goal midway through the second period last night as the Bandits beat the Vermilion Tigers 3-2 at home. They take on the Cold Lake Ice Friday.
The Calgary Flames lost 4-3 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks. Those Ducks come to Edmonton to face the Oilers tonight.
