In news:
The Lloydminster RCMP released their third quarter statistics earlier this week. Vehicle thefts are down, dealing with repeat offenders up and multiple other stats in between.

K9 Chase apprehended a repeat offender north of Cold Lake after they shot out the back window of a truck outside Vegreville and led police on a multi-jurisdiction pursuit.

On a national scale, The B.C. ostrich cull cost Canadians over $6.5 million as reported by CTV yesterday.

Commodities

Commodities

March spring wheat closed at $5.36 per bushel, gaining about 13 cents on the day.

March canola closed at $650 per tonne, up just over $3.

March feeder cattle closed at $365.86 per hundredweight, higher on the session.

March oats closed at $3.01 per bushel, edging higher.


Energy Stocks

Western Canadian Select crude was trading at US$48.56 per barrel, continuing to climb.

West Texas Intermediate crude was trading around US$64.82 per barrel, also higher.

Shares of Cenovus Energy finished higher Wednesday.

Shares of Strathcona Resources also closed slightly higher.


Traffic:
Highways across the region this morning vary between partially covered and bare. Highway 17 north and south is considered partially covered with reduced visibility this morning. Highway 16 going west is fine, however east to maidstone is considered partially covered with reduced visibility. Roadways in and around Turtleford and St. Walburg are partially covered. The issue at Deer Creek Bridge on Highway 3 is ongoing.

Special Olympics donut sales occur this weekend in Lloydminster. Then starting Feb. 1, Mother Teresa with the support of Sobeys is launching their fifth annual donut campaign with a goal of raising more than $10,000.


Athletes Public Speaking:

A Public Speaking Workshop for Athletes is set for Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kitscoty Public Library.

The session focuses on confidence building, public speaking basics, and clear communication with coaches, teammates, sponsors, and the media. Registration is available through the Kitscoty Public Library website.

Sports:
The Rustlers woman’s volleyball team is at home Friday night. They will be collecting donations for the food bank, in exchange you will get money off your ticket.

Also the Bobcats take on Fort Mac at home at 7 p.m., Lakeland’s woman’s hockey team takes on the Medicine Hat Rattlers at home and the Bandits are on the road to take on Cold Lake.
